Retail Express POS needs permission from your web browser to communicate with locally connected hardware such as:
- Receipt printers
- Integrated EFTPOS terminals
- Other devices communicating through the Retail Express Hardware Utility
If these browser permissions are not enabled, your hardware may appear disconnected or may not communicate with Retail Express POS.
Depending on the browser you use, the permission names may be slightly different.
Google Chrome
While logged in to Retail Express POS:
- Click the site information/settings icon next to the Retail Express POS website address.
- Select Site settings.
- Locate the following permissions:
- Local network access — set this to Allow
- Apps on device — set this to Allow
- Return to Retail Express POS.
- Refresh the page.
Once both permissions are allowed, Retail Express POS should be able to communicate with supported locally connected hardware.
Microsoft Edge
The process in Microsoft Edge is very similar.
While logged in to Retail Express POS:
- Click the site information/settings icon next to the Retail Express POS website address.
- Select Permissions for this site or Site settings.
- Locate the following permissions:
- Local network — set this to Allow
- Apps on device — set this to Allow
- Return to Retail Express POS.
- Refresh the page.
Note: In Microsoft Edge, the equivalent permission to Chrome's Local network access may appear simply as Local network.
Optional Windows quick fix — administrator access required
Windows users can apply the Retail Express browser configuration file as an alternative to manually changing the browser permissions above.
Download the ZIP file for your browser: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Google Chrome:
Microsoft Edge:
- Right-click the downloaded ZIP file, select Extract All, then select Extract.
- Close all windows of the browser you are updating.
- Open the extracted folder and double-click the
.reg file:- Google Chrome: RetailExpress_Chrome_Fix.reg
- Microsoft Edge: RetailExpress_Edge_Fix.reg
- Approve the Windows prompts. Administrator access is required.
- Reopen your browser and Retail Express POS.
- Test your receipt printer and integrated EFTPOS connection.
Apply the relevant file on each Windows computer used for POS. If you use both browsers, apply both files.
If your computer is managed by your IT provider, ask them to apply the configuration. These files change browser policies for the computer. If you cannot apply them, follow the manual instructions above or contact your IT provider.

- Confirm that the Retail Express Hardware Utility is running.
- Try your receipt printer or EFTPOS terminal again.
If the issue continues, please contact Maropost Support for assistance.
