Maximum Discount Rules control the highest discount that sales staff can apply to individual products. The rules are configured in Back Office and enforced when products are discounted in POS.
Purpose of Maximum Discount Rules
The purpose of Maximum Discount Rules is to allow management staff to control and set the maximum level of discounting available to sales staff.
The permitted discount can be defined separately for each product.
Configuring the Rules in Back Office
Maximum Discount Rules are created and configured in the Back Office area of Retail Express.
Once configured, the rules apply when staff attempt to discount the relevant products during a POS transaction.
Exceeding a Maximum Discount in POS
When processing a new sale, a warning appears if a user attempts to discount a product beyond its configured maximum discount.
The warning prevents the excessive discount from being applied automatically and presents the available options.
Applying the Maximum Permitted Discount
The user can choose to set the product to its maximum permitted discount.
Retail Express adjusts the discount to the highest amount allowed by the configured rule.
Authorising a Manager Override
Alternatively, the user can consult a manager or another staff member who has permission to override Maximum Discount Rules.
The authorised user enters their credentials into the warning screen.
After the credentials are accepted, Retail Express allows the configured maximum discount to be overridden for the product.
