Products can be published to Shopify individually or in bulk. During this process, you can group related products into Shopify variants and maintain online prices that differ from their standard in-store prices.
Product Synchronisation Overview
There are two ways to publish products from Retail Express to Shopify:
- Publish an individual product from its product record.
- Publish multiple products using the Mass Download and Mass Upload functionality.
You can also configure related products as Shopify variants, providing customers with selectable options such as size and colour.
Retail Express supports separate online and in-store prices, allowing the price displayed in Shopify to differ from the POS Price used in stores.
Publishing an Individual Product
In Back Office, search for and open the product you want to publish.
From the Edit Product screen, remain on the Main tab and scroll to the Publish to Shopify section.
The section displays the connected Shopify store.
Enable the publishing option for the required store, then select Save Changes.
The product is now enabled for publishing to the selected Shopify store.
Grouping Products as Shopify Variants
Shopify refers to products containing selectable options, such as size and colour, as variants.
To group individual Retail Express products under one Shopify product, all related products must have the same Manufacturer SKU.
The shared Manufacturer SKU creates the master product in Shopify. Each individual Retail Express product is then displayed as a variant under that product.
For example, products sharing the same Manufacturer SKU can appear in Shopify with separate dropdown options for:
Products that should appear as variants must therefore be assigned the same Manufacturer SKU before they are published.
Setting an Individual Web Price
Online pricing can be maintained from the Edit Product screen.
Use the Web Price field to enter the price that should be published to Shopify.
The Web Price can differ from the product’s standard POS Price, which is the price used for in-store sales.
For example, a product may have a Web Price of $29.95 while retaining a different POS Price.
Select Save Changes after updating the pricing information.
Downloading Products in Bulk
To maintain multiple products, navigate to:
Inventory > Product Management > Mass Download
Apply any filters required to select the products you want to update.
Export the product information, then open the downloaded file in Microsoft Excel.
Reviewing the Mass Download File
When Microsoft Excel opens the file in Protected View, select Enable Editing.
The spreadsheet contains the product information that can be reviewed and updated before it is uploaded back into Retail Express.
Relevant Shopify fields include:
- Manufacturer SKU
- Size
- Colour
- POS Price
- Web Price
- Publish to Shopify
Grouping Products by Manufacturer SKU
Review the Manufacturer SKU values in the downloaded file.
Products with the same Manufacturer SKU can be grouped together as one configurable product in Shopify.
Their individual size and colour values are used to create the selectable variant options.
Confirm that all related products use the same Manufacturer SKU before uploading the changes.
Maintaining POS and Web Prices in Bulk
The spreadsheet contains separate fields for the product’s in-store and online prices.
The POS Price is the standard selling price used in Retail Express stores.
The Web Price is the online price published to Shopify.
Update the required price fields in the spreadsheet. When the file is uploaded, Retail Express applies the new values to the corresponding products.
Publishing Products to Shopify in Bulk
Locate the Publish to Shopify field near the end of the spreadsheet.
The field includes the name of the connected Shopify store and indicates whether each product is currently enabled for publishing.
The available values are:
- TRUE: Publish the product to the Shopify store.
- FALSE: Do not publish the product to the Shopify store.
Change the value to TRUE for each product that should be published.
You can copy the TRUE value down the column to enable multiple products at once.
Saving and Uploading the Changes
After updating the product grouping, pricing and publishing fields, save the file.
Upload the completed file using the Product Mass Upload functionality.
Retail Express applies the validated changes to the product records. Products set to TRUE in the Publish to Shopify field are then enabled for synchronisation with the connected Shopify store.
