Outlets in Retail Express represent the individual stores and warehouses used by your business. Each Outlet maintains its own inventory quantities, allowing you to track stock that is available, allocated to sales, on order or being transferred between locations.
In this video we introduce you to the concepts of Outlets within Retail Express - your individual stores and warehouses. We'll show you how to configure your Outlet, including how to display unique information on your Invoices and Receipts.
A license is required per Outlet in Retail Express (including Unmanned Warehouses). To add/remove an Outlet from your system please contact Support.

An Outlet is a physical store or warehouse location.
Each location is set up as a separate Outlet in Retail Express and requires its own licence.
Types of Outlets
Retail Express supports two types of Outlets:
- Regular Outlet
- Unmanned Warehouse
An Unmanned Warehouse is primarily used as a stock storage location. You can use it to:
- Order stock
- Receive stock
- Transfer stock between locations
However, you cannot log in to the POS or process sales from an Unmanned Warehouse.
How Outlets Work
Let’s look at an example.
Imagine your business has five stores and one warehouse. Each store maintains its own inventory levels, allowing you to see:
- The stock currently available
- Stock already allocated to a sale
- Stock on order
- Stock being transferred between locations
The Unmanned Warehouse also maintains its own inventory.
For example, at the beginning of a season, you may order all your stock and store it in the warehouse. You can then transfer stock to individual stores as needed.
In this scenario, you would have six Outlets in Retail Express:
- Five Regular Outlets
- One Unmanned Warehouse
If you later integrate an online store and want to sell stock directly from the warehouse, you would need to upgrade the warehouse licence to a Regular Outlet licence.
You would then have six Regular Outlets and no Unmanned Warehouses.
Managing Your Outlets
To view and manage your Outlets, navigate to:
Settings > Locations/Outlets > Outlets
Your Outlets are listed at the bottom of the screen.
In this example, there are five Regular Outlets and one Unmanned Warehouse.
Editing an Outlet
To edit an Outlet, click the pencil icon next to it.
The fields at the top of the screen allow you to update the Outlet’s settings. Each field is explained in detail in our Knowledge Base, but let’s take a quick look at the main options.
Outlet Information
On the left, you’ll find the fields used to identify the Outlet, including:
- Outlet name
- Company Registration Number
- Currency
- Store Type, which is used for reporting
- Outlet logo
- Minimum transfer quantity
Contact Details
The middle column contains the Outlet’s main contact details.
Select Display Address on Invoice if you want this Outlet’s address to appear on its invoices and receipts.
If you leave this option unticked, Retail Express will use the information configured in your default Global Settings. This is useful if you want every store to display the same business information.
Additional Settings
The right column contains additional Outlet settings.
The Default Fulfil Location and Default Source Location settings are used for Home Delivery and Warehouse sales processed through the POS.
For example, you can configure an Outlet so that all Home Delivery or Warehouse sales use stock from your warehouse rather than the store’s inventory.
For more information about this feature, watch our POS Fulfilment video.
You can also:
- Add bank details for Outlet-specific statements
- Set default comments for Purchase Orders
- Set default comments for receipts and invoices
Once you have finished updating the Outlet, click Save.
