Content is a term used to describe your website page types in Maropost Commerce that share common features. By default, you have five content types available to you:
- Blog Post
- Brand
- Buying Guide
- Web / Information Page
- Product Category
Some content pages will contain default information for you to use or edit to suit your needs. They're all quite flexible in their use. You can also create your own pages and content types, and even modify the page templates to change how they display to your customers.
Please Note:
Brand and
product category are covered in separate articles, as they are more closely associated with products.

Content Types Overview
Blogs
Blogs are a way for you to share and update your customers on recent news or events involving your business and industry. To be effective, they should be written in a conversational style and be frequently updated with new content.
Unlike other content types, blogs allow your users to add their own comments to your content, increasing engagement and building rapport. Blogs also let you add an "author" to the content, so readers can engage on a more personal level.
Web / Information Pages
Web pages are a catch all for many different information pages you'll find on websites. Each Maropost Commerce site comes with a number of pages already created and populated with content, such as:
- About Us
- Home
- Privacy Policy
- Returns Policy
- Security Policy
- Website Terms of Use
Buying Guides
Buying guides are a great way to display more specialised product information, and help your customers understand different features or points of difference between your products.
Add a Content Page
-
In your Maropost Commerce control panel navigate to Webstore and select the content type associated with the page you want to create (web page, blog post or buying guide).
-
In the top right corner, click the Add new category button.
Tip: To edit an existing page, click on its name instead.

-
Enter the following information in the available fields:
- Name: The title of the page or blog post.
- Parent Content: If the page is a sub-category of another page, you can select its parent here. Mostly used for product categories.
- Author: Who wrote the content (for blog posts).
- Date: When you want it to be published (leave blank to publish immediately).
- Webpage URL: Set your own URL, or if you would like the URL to be automatically generated, select the checkbox.
- Sort Order: Enter a number to control the order of this page in relation to other pages in the same content type.
-
On the right you will see a series of checkboxes to control visibility to the page:
- Active: If selected your page is visible on your website.
- Visible on Menu: Allows your page to appear on menus.
- Visible on Sitemap: allows your blog post to appear on the system generated sitemap XML file.
- Require Login: If selected, customers won't be able to see the page unless they're logged in.
- Allow Reviews / Comments: Turns the comments section off or on.
Be sure to clear the box next to active if you are not ready for your page to be live on your website.

-
In the Page Content section, you can add your content into the WYSIWYG Editor by typing it in. Alternatively click the Source Code button to enter HTML formatted content.
The WYSIWYG editor works in much the same way as word processing software formatting tools. More information on using the WYSIWYG editor can be found further in this article.

-
Click the Continue button. You page will be saved, and new fields and options will appear.
-
To complete the remaining sections, consult the table below:
Please Note: Fields may differ between content types.
Name | Description |
---|
Short Descriptions | Add a subtitle and overview of your content to use in the header of the page as a summary. |
Main Images | Display a featured image on your page. Also used to create an automatically generated thumbnail when you link to your page on social media. You also have options to change the quality of the image and add white space if required. |
Related Categories | Associate your page to other pages, product categories or brands by selecting from the drop down menus and clicking the Add button. |
Visible to User Groups | If you would like only specific user groups to be able to view the page, select the checkboxes that you want this post to be visible to. Requires the customer groups add-on. |
Template & Design | Select a custom header, footer, body or search template for your page. If in doubt, leave these as the default. |
SEO | Boost your website and your page in search engine rankings. While default information is used automatically, you can add your meta keywords, meta description, SEO page heading and even your canonical URL if required. |

-
Once you are ready to publish your post, select the Active checkbox and click the Save button.
Your page will be created and visible on your webstore.
Tip: Add information pages to a
menu so that customers can find the page on your website.
Add a Content Type
You can create your own content type to organise and display specific information that the defaults don't cover. You can add any number of pages under each content type. Below are some examples of different content types relevant to certain industries:
- Recipes
- Support Articles
- Training Guides
- Customer Testimonials
- Additional product category trees (e.g. parts finder)
To create a content type:
-
In your Maropost Commerce control panel navigate to Settings & Tools > All settings & tools.
-
Click the Control Panel tab and click Content Types Manager.

-
Click Add New to add a new content type.

-
Give your content type a Name and Unique Code. The Unique Code is an identifier for this content type. You can use letters, numbers, hyphen and underscore characters in the code.
Tip: Select the Show in control panel menu checkbox to easily navigate to this content type in future.
-
In the Fields visible in CPanel section, you can select and name which fields you want to appear when you create or edit a page with this content type. Clear the checkboxes of the fields you don’t need and name them according to their use.
-
Click on the Save & Close button.
You can now create content pages for your new content type.
WYSIWYG Editor
The WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor is an easy way to edit your text content within Maropost Commerce, without the need of HTML knowledge. Acting like a text editor, a WYSIWYG editor is available on most content and information pages within your Maropost Commerce web shop, while logged into your control panel.
WYSIWYG View
The highlighted panel contains many of the same functions that you would find in a word processor, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Hovering your mouse cursor over each button will give you a tool-tip regarding its function.

You can use this editor to create and modify product descriptions, information pages and some email templates.
You can add an image to your page by clicking on the image icon. You can change the dimensions, position and alignment of the image and see a preview before you proceed.

Tip: Images over 10 mb in size aren't allowed through the WYSIWYG editor, but they can still be uploaded via
SFTP into the /assets/images/ folder.
We strongly recommend making your images responsive, so that they scale to multiple display sizes. To do this, double click the image and open the properties. Delete the value in the height, then click the Advanced tab. In the Stylesheet Classes field, enter img-responsive img-fluid
, click Ok, then Save.

Source View
The source code view displays all the HTML tags used to format your text and content. Editing via the source code tab is only recommended for experienced users.

Embed YouTube Videos in a Content Page
YouTube videos are a great way to push your point across to your customers with visual media. YouTube can bring in customers by expanding the reach of your brand.
Use your YouTube videos in effective ways. What might be a dull category page or product page can be a lot more interesting with the use of a relevant YouTube video. This content can help engage your users and keep them shopping on your site.
Tip: Start your own YouTube channel! Do reviews of your products, common issues or trends within your niche. Fresh and unique content is a great way to capture your customers and bring them back again and again.
To embed a YouTube video on your Maropost Commerce webstore you’ll first need to get the embed code from YouTube:
-
Go to the YouTube video page of the video that you’d like to embed.
-
Click on the Share link underneath the video and switch to the Embed tab.

-
Copy the iFrame Code. You can also adjust the playback settings with the checkboxes.

Now that you have the code, you will need to embed it on a product or a page.
-
Navigate to Webstore and select the type of page you’d like to add the video to.
-
Click on the content page you want to embed the video into.
-
Scroll down to the Page Content section and click on the Source Code tab.
-
Paste the iFrame Code into the editor section and click the Save button.

-
YouTube videos aren’t responsive by default. To make your YouTube Videos responsive, you can use the below snippet of code. Replace the “src=” with the output from the YouTube Video page like the examples below:
16:9 aspect ratio
<div class="embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9"><iframe class="embed-responsive-item" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TuxPKQA8We4"></iframe></div>
4:3 aspect ratio
<div class="embed-responsive embed-responsive-4by3"><iframe class="embed-responsive-item" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TuxPKQA8We4"></iframe></div>

Add Images to Content Pages
Tip: The method described in these steps only supports image files. PDF's are supported with a
Maropost Commerce add-on, but other file types can only be added via
SFTP.
Images need to be uploaded to your site files before they can be embedded into a content page. To do this:
-
Using the WYSIWYG Editor click on the Image icon at the top of the editor as show below.

-
You will have the option to browse from images you have already uploaded to the server or upload new images.
Tip: You can also upload images via
SFTP into the /assets/images/ folder.
To insert an image that you have already uploaded, click on the Image Info tab and then the Browse Server button. Double-click on the image you want to select it.

To upload a new image, click Upload tab and click on Choose File. Select the JPG, PNG or GIF image from your computer and click on the Send it to the Server button.

-
Once you have uploaded your new image or have chosen an image to use from your list of already uploaded images you can enter the Alternate Text. This text displays if the image could not load or is used for people with visual disabilities.

-
You can adjust the width of your image so it can fit on the by changing the Width value. Images that are wider than 300 pixels will not display correctly on devices with small screens like mobile phones. We recommend that you make the image responsive so it will resize for smaller screens.
To make an image responsive remove the width and height values, then click on the Advanced tab. Then under Stylesheet Classes enter img-responsive img-fluid
.

-
Click OK to insert the image into the page, and click the Save button.

Upload a PDF on a Content Page
You can upload PDF files for customers to view or download from your content pages. There is a hard limit of 32 mb for all files added through the WYSIWYG editor. To upload larger files, use SFTP.
Please Note: The file manager may have issues loading once 100 or more files are added. If you encounter loading issues, please upload file through SFTP.
To add a PDF:
-
In your Maropost Commerce control panel navigate to Settings & Tools > All Settings & tools.
-
Click on the Web store tab and click Image & File Manager.

-
Click the “upload” button on the top left, then Browse for file. Select the PDF that you want to upload from your computer. Click the upload selected file button.
-
Once the document is uploaded, right click on the newly created thumbnail on the page and choose “view”. Some browsers may block the popup, you should get a notification and the option to allow. If this happens, right click on the thumbnail again and click “view”.
-
Once the PDF opens, copy the URL of the file in the address bar.
-
Navigate to Webstore > Information Page or Web Page and locate the content page you wish to add the PDF to.
-
Once in the editing page of the content page, scroll down to the “content” section, click on the “Source Code” tab, and paste the following code (replacing the URL) into whichever page you’d like the PDF link to appear:
<a href="http://www.domain.com.au/assets/mypdf.pdf">Download PDF</a>.
This will have created a direct link to the PDF document, so the customer can click to view. They’re also presented with the option to download while viewing.
