Overview
Google Analytics collects customer metrics through a number of tracking events, such as add to cart, category/product list views, and order/product details to track conversions.
This add-on replaces Maropost’s Google Tag Manager for eCommerce tracking, but can be run along side your existing Tag Manager/Universal Analytics if already set up.
Benefits & Features
Google Analytics 4 is the new default analytics offered by Google, with several advantages over the previous version:
- Privacy-focused and durable for the future.
- Enhanced ecommerce tracking built in! No additional setup required.
- Intelligent, using machine learning to unearth insights about the customer journey across platforms and devices.
- Enhanced, seamless integrations with Google’s advertising platforms to optimise campaign performance and drive greater marketing ROI.
Set up the Google Analytics 4 Add-on
- Set up a Google Analytics 4 Property. When configuring your Property ensure the “data stream” is set to Web and you have entered your Maropost webstore URL.
- Once your data stream is active, copy its Measurement ID (including the “G-” prefix) as you will need this later.
Please Note: Data collection for your Google Analytics 4 Property is handled by the add-on, you do not need any code supplied by Google.
- In your Neto by Maropost control panel click on the Addons menu.
- Locate the Google Analytics 4 add-on under Analytics & Optimisation and click install.
- In the pop-up window, enter the Measurement ID you copied from your Analytics Dashboard and click the Install button.
Your webstore will now start sending ecommerce tracking events such as add to carts, cart/checkout view, and purchases (conversions) to your Google Analytics 4 Dashboard, general page view, and search events.
Please note: While GA4 has some live data, most of the tracking information will take 24 hrs to appear in any reports. To ensure accurate and consistent event tracking in your GA4 dashboard, you should use only one source of tracking implementation. Do not run Google Analytics 4 simultaneously via Google Tag Manager and the Neto GA4 add-on, as this may results in duplicate or conflicting events data. Use only one source of truth at a time, either GA4 via GTM or Neto GA4 add-on.
Tip: Looking to expand your Google Analytics 4 setup? Your Google Analytics 4 Admin Dashboard allows you to link your Google Ads account or turn on enhanced measurement events (such as form submissions, file downloads, and more) for your Analytics Property.
