Collection Campaigns allow merchants to prepare merchandising changes in advance by scheduling discovery rules that automatically activate during a defined campaign period.
This feature introduces time-based merchandising behavior into Smart Collections, by allowing merchants to group scheduled rules inside a campaign container.
Merchants can use it to temporarily pin selected products to priority positions within a collection during promotional events such as seasonal sales, product launches, clearance campaigns, or Black Friday promotions.
To Access
- Go to: Smart Collections > Collection Campaigns
- Select New Campaign
- Once you reach the Create New Campaign page, enter Campaign Details
Field and Option Details
Campaigns act as containers for scheduled merchandising activity, including Scheduled Pinning and future scheduled merchandising features such as promo cards and merchandising rules. A campaign itself does not affect the storefront unless it contains active scheduled rules.
A newly created campaign without any scheduled rules remains in a Draft status and has no shopper-facing impact.
Deleting a campaign automatically removes all scheduled rules associated with that campaign.
Campaign Configuration
Field / Option | Description | Discovery or Merchandising Impact |
|---|
Campaign Name | Defines the internal name of the campaign. | Helps merchants organize scheduled merchandising activity. |
Start Date | Defines when the campaign becomes active. | Rules can start on or after this date, but each rule follows its own schedule. |
End Date | Defines when the campaign expires. | Rules must end on or before this date, but they stop applying based on their own end date. |
Start Time | Defines the exact activation time for the campaign. | Scheduled rules can begin from this time, based on the creator’s local browser time. |
End Time | Defines the exact expiration time for the campaign. | Scheduled rules must end by this time, based on the creator’s local browser time. |
Note: Scheduled rule timing is evaluated using the local browser time of the user creating the rule. For example, if a merchant in Texas schedules a rule for 12:00 AM, the rule activates based on Texas local time.
- Click on Save to create campaign.
- After a campaign is created, merchants can add scheduled discovery rules inside the campaign.
- On this page, click on ADD RULE to configure pinning.
Add a Scheduled Pinning Rule
Scheduled Pinning allows merchants to temporarily place selected products in priority positions within a collection during a campaign period. Once the campaign becomes active, Merchandising Cloud automatically applies the configured placement behavior to the selected collection.
After creating a campaign, merchants can add a scheduled pinning rule to define:
- Which collection will be affected
- Which products should receive priority placement
- How the products should be ordered
- When the scheduled pinning behavior should become active
Step 1 — Select Rule Type
To begin configuring scheduled pinning, the system displays the available rule types that can be scheduled within the campaign.
Click on “Add Pinning Rule”
Step 2 — Choose Collection
On the Pinning page, select your Collection
The selected collection becomes the discovery surface affected during the campaign period. Once a collection is selected, the system loads all products currently available within that collection into the pinning workspace.
Pinning Rule Configuration Overview
Field / Option | Description | Discovery or Merchandising Impact |
|---|
Choose Collections | Defines the collection where the scheduled pinning rule will apply. | Controls which shopper-facing collection receives temporary placement changes. |
Collection Selection | Displays available collections that can be selected for the campaign rule. | Determines the discovery surface affected by the scheduled pinning behavior. |
Pinned Products | Defines which products should appear in preferred positions within the selected collection. | Temporarily increases product visibility and placement priority during the rule period. |
Schedule Timeline | Defines when the scheduled pinning rule becomes active. | Automatically applies and removes placement behavior based on rule timing. |
Step 3 — Pin Products
After selecting a collection, products are separated into two merchandising areas:
The Unpinned section contains products currently following the collection’s standard ordering behavior.
The Pinned section contains products that will receive manually controlled placement during the scheduled campaign window.
Merchants can pin products using either of the following methods:
Method | Description |
|---|
Drag and Drop | Drag a product from the Unpinned section into the Pinned section. |
Click to Pin | Select the pin icon next to a product to move it into the pinned list. |
- While adding products to the pinned list, you can also use the built-in search and sorting options to locate items quickly within the collection. The search bar allows you to search by product title.
- Once you have added products in the pinned section, you can adjust ranking of the products by simple drag and drop.
Step 4 — Schedule the Rule
Once product selection and ordering are complete, configure the scheduled activation period for the pinning rule. Rules can be scheduled for any date range within the configured campaign period.
Note: The campaign date and time define the overall campaign duration. The scheduled pinning date is configured separately within the Pinning workflow and must fall within the campaign period.
Step 5 — Save the Pinning
Click Save. After the scheduled pinning rule is saved, a success notification appears, and the rule is listed under the Pinning tab.
The rule then appears under the Pinning tab inside the campaign overview page.
Overlapping Scheduled Date Ranges
Scheduled Pinning does not allow more than one active pinning rule for the same collection at the same time. This prevents multiple scheduled pin rules from trying to control the same collection on the storefront simultaneously.
If a date range is already in use, those dates appear disabled in the calendar so merchants can select only available schedule dates.
In case a pin is already scheduled from July 3–6, those dates appear disabled when creating another schedule, so the merchant must select a different available date range.
Rule Interactions
Scheduled Pinning temporarily changes collection discovery behavior during the scheduled campaign period.
Standard/manual pinning rules continue to work as usual. When a Scheduled Pinning Rule becomes active, it temporarily takes priority over any existing standard pinning rule for the same collection. Once the scheduled rule expires or is deleted, the existing standard pinning rule automatically becomes active again.
Interaction | Expected Behavior |
|---|
Default Collection Ordering | Scheduled pinning temporarily overrides default collection positioning for pinned products during the active schedule window. |
Existing Standard Pinning Rules | Scheduled pinning takes priority while the scheduled rule is active. After the scheduled rule expires or is deleted, the existing standard pinning rule automatically reactivates. |
Multiple Campaigns | Multiple campaigns can run at the same time. However, overlapping scheduled pinning rules cannot target the same collection during the same date and time window. |
AI Ranking | Scheduled pinning manually influences product placement during the active schedule window. |
Campaign Expiration | After the scheduled rule expires, scheduled pinning stops applying automatically and the collection returns to the applicable standard pinning or default collection behavior. |
