Theme updates let you move to a newer version of a Maropost theme without immediately replacing the storefront your customers are using. When an update is available, Commerce Cloud creates an updated copy of the theme in your theme library so you can review it before deciding whether to publish it.
This is especially useful when you have already customised your storefront. Instead of installing a newer theme and rebuilding your work from the beginning, you can use the update process to bring supported customisations forward and check whether any code edits need additional attention.
Accessing Your Themes
The Themes page shows the themes installed for your store, their version information, and whether a newer version is available.
To access Themes:
- Log in to Maropost.
- Go to Commerce.
- Open Sales Channels.
- Select the required store.
- The page includes your current theme, installed themes, and themes available from the Theme store.
Understanding the Themes Page
The Themes page helps you check your active theme, review installed themes, and see whether a newer theme version is available.
At the top, the Current Theme section shows the theme currently active on your storefront. You can see the theme name, current version, and Last update date.
The Installed Themes section lists the other themes installed for your store. Each row shows the theme preview, theme name, notes, creator, last update date, and available actions.
Use the version information under the theme name to check update availability:
- A green indicator with a message such as Theme version v.22.02 available means a newer version is available.
- A version shown without the green availability indicator, such as Theme version v.20.2.0, means no newer version is currently shown for that theme.
The section also shows your theme usage limit, for example 7/30 Themes Installed.
At the bottom, Themes in Focus shows other themes available for your store. Select ADD THEME to add a theme, or select BROWSE ALL THEMES to view more options.
Check Your Theme Version
Each supported Theme store theme has a version number. The version helps you identify the release currently installed for that theme and whether a newer release is available.
Under Installed Themes, you may see a version such as:
Theme version v.20.2.0
If your theme is already using the latest available version, opening the version information displays:
This theme is up to date
The message also shows the latest version and provides the VIEW RELEASE NOTES option where release information is available.
When a Theme Update Is Available
When Maropost releases a newer version of a supported theme, the available version appears below the theme name.
For example:
Theme version v.22.02 available
A green indicator next to the message helps identify that an update is available.
Select the version information to review the update. The update panel shows:
- The version you are currently using
- The version available for update
- VIEW RELEASE NOTES
- UPDATE
Review the release notes before updating so you understand what has changed in the newer version.
Update Your Theme
Updating a theme does not immediately replace the theme currently serving your storefront. Commerce Cloud creates an updated copy and adds it to your theme library so you can review it before publishing.
To update a supported theme:
- Open the available version information under the theme name.
- Select VIEW RELEASE NOTES to review the changes.
- Select UPDATE.
- Wait while Commerce Cloud prepares the updated theme.
- Review the new theme copy in your theme library before publishing it.
While the update is being prepared, you see a message similar to:
Updating to Aurora v.2.2...
Commerce Cloud also displays:
Preparing your theme for review. This will only take a moment.
Your existing storefront remains available while the new theme copy is being prepared.
Review the Updated Theme Before Publishing
The update process gives you a separate theme copy so you can check the result without immediately changing the storefront used by your customers.
Review important areas of the storefront, particularly components that you have customised. Depending on your store, this can include the homepage, product pages, collections, navigation, header, footer, sections, blocks, and styling.
If Commerce Cloud indicates that code edits could not be included, pay particular attention to the areas affected by those customisations.
Publish the updated theme only after you are satisfied with the storefront experience.
Automatic Theme Updates
Some theme updates can be applied automatically when they contain fixes intended to maintain the reliability or security of the theme.
After an automatic update, Commerce Cloud displays a message such as:
Updated to Lumos v.1.2.8
The update information also explains that automatic theme updates are used for bug fixes and security issues.
You can select VIEW RELEASE NOTES to review the changes included in the update.
Automatic updates are different from regular theme updates that create a new copy for you to review. They are limited to fixes that can be applied automatically.
Theme Library Limit
Creating an updated copy adds another theme to your theme library. If your store has already reached its theme limit, Commerce Cloud cannot add another theme until space is available.
In this situation, you see:
The theme limit is reached. You need to remove a theme before you can add a new one.
Remove a theme you no longer need before attempting the update again.
The update panel can still show whether your current theme is already using the latest version, but a new copy cannot be added while the theme limit has been reached.
Updates for Uploaded Themes
Theme updates in Commerce Cloud are available for themes installed from the Theme store, where Maropost manages the theme version and can provide newer releases when they become available.
For uploaded themes, the theme versions are not available and they remains managed by its original creator. If an uploaded theme has a newer version available, contact the original theme creator or provider to obtain the update and follow their recommended update process.
If you want to use Commerce Cloud theme updates, install a supported theme from the Theme store.Theme Store Themes and Uploaded Themes
After Updating
After Commerce Cloud creates the updated theme copy, use the status shown in Installed Themes to understand whether your existing code edits were included.
Review the new version, compare important storefront areas with your current theme, and confirm that your customisations behave as expected before publishing it.
Until you choose to publish the updated copy, your existing storefront theme remains separate from the new version, giving you control over when the updated theme becomes customer-facing.
