Shipping Configuration controls how shipping costs are calculated and presented to customers during checkout. It defines how destination, product characteristics, and pricing logic combine to determine which shipping options are available and how much is charged.
Shipping Configuration defines how shipping is calculated and applied to orders in Commerce Cloud.
This module is structured in three parts:
- ShipStation
- Custom Shipping
- Shipping Zones
These sections work together to determine how shipping rates are calculated.
ShipStation is the default shipping source for live rates when connected. If a ShipStation account is connected, it will always be used to retrieve shipping rates.
If ShipStation is not connected, the system uses Custom Shipping rules defined in Commerce Cloud. If you intend to use Custom Shipping instead of ShipStation, do not connect a ShipStation account, as ShipStation takes precedence whenever it is connected.
Shipping Zones are destination location templates used for Custom Shipping. If you plan to use a specific Shipping Zone in Custom Shipping, ensure the zone is created first in the Shipping Zones tab before configuring any related shipping rules.
To access
- Go to Settings.
- Select Shipping Configuration
How It Works
Shipping Configuration controls system behavior. It does not change storefront design. It changes how shipping rates are calculated and applied to orders.
Shipping Configuration follows a clear order of precedence.
1. ShipStation (Primary Source)
If a ShipStation account is connected:
- It is used as the primary shipping source.
- Shipping is managed through the connected account.
2. Custom Shipping (Fallback)
If no ShipStation account is connected:
- The system uses your Custom Shipping rules.
- These rules are defined within Commerce Cloud.
3. Shipping Zones (Geographic Scope)
Shipping Zones define:
- Country
- State
- Zip Code
- Status
Zones determine where shipping rules apply.
Note: ShipStation takes priority when connected. Custom Shipping is used only when ShipStation is not connected.
Configure ShipStation
When you open Shipping Configuration, the first option you see is ShipStation. This section allows you to connect your ShipStation account.
What You See
- If an account is connected, the connected account will be visible here.
To connect ShipStation
- Click Connect Account.
- Complete the connection process.
If already connected, the account details will appear in this section. You may also see reference links on this page for additional ShipStation details.
Note: You'll need your ShipStation V2 API key to connect your account. If you don't have one yet, you can generate it in your ShipStation account settings or follow our step-by-step integration guide.
Configure Custom Shipping
The second option is Custom Shipping. This section allows you to define manual shipping rules inside Commerce Cloud.
When you land on this page, you will see a table listing all configured custom shipping rules.
Table Overview
Each row includes:
- Warehouse
- Shipping Zone
- Shipping Option
- Weight (Min)
- Weight (Max)
- Price (Min)
- Price (Max)
Filters and Custom Views
At the top of the table, you will see:
- ALL
- ADD FILTER +
When you click ADD FILTER +, you can apply filters based on:
- Click New.
- Select filter criteria (for example, Warehouse, Shipping Zone, or Validation Status).
- Save the filter.
Saving the filter allows you to reuse it later without recreating the same criteria. This creates a custom view of the table.
- Warehouse
- Shipping Zone
- Validation Status
Filtering changes what is displayed on screen. It does not change shipping behavior.
Export
Click Export to export the table currently displayed. The exported file reflects the filtered view if filters are applied.
Import
Import allows bulk updates to your Custom Shipping table. Click Import to import shipping rules into the Custom Shipping table.
Available import actions include:
- Add New
- Update Existing Record
- Add New and Update Existing Record
Add New Row
Click Add New Row to create a new custom shipping rule. When you click Add New Row, you will see fields to configure:
- Shipping Option Name
- Delivery Charge
- Warehouse
- Shipping Zone
Conditions Section
You can define conditions:
- Weight (Min)
- Weight (Max)
- Price (Min)
- Price (Max)
These conditions determine when the rule applies.
Additional Details
You can also enter:
After completing the required fields:
- Click Save.
A new row will be added to the table. This creates a new Custom Shipping rule.
Manage Shipping Zones
Shipping Zones are destination location templates used when configuring Custom Shipping rules.
If you are using Custom Shipping, ensure that the required Shipping Zones are created before setting up shipping rates. Custom Shipping rules rely on these zones to determine where specific rates apply.
If a ShipStation account is connected, ShipStation will be used as the default shipping source. To use Custom Shipping instead, do not connect ShipStation.
Select the Shipping Zones tab to view and manage zones.
Select the Shipping Zones tab to view and manage zones.
This page displays all configured shipping zones.
Each zone includes:
- Shipping Zone Name
- Country
- State
- Zip Code
- Status
Example: USA Zone
- Shipping Zone Name: USA
- Country: US
- State: All States
- Zip Code: All Zip Codes
- Status: Active
Example: Australia Zone
- Shipping Zone Name: Australia Zone
- Country: AU
- State: All States
- Zip Code: All Zip Codes

Shipping Zones define geographic coverage. Shipping rules rely on these zones to determine where rates apply.
You can create new zones or use Import or Export options available on the page.
