Product Categories help you organise your product catalogue so items are easier to manage, locate, merchandise, and report on. They play a critical operational role because categories influence how products are grouped across the Back Office, how staff find items during daily tasks, and how products are used in collections, merchandising rules, and exports.
Categories make product lookup faster and more consistent. For technical admins, they provide a structured way to maintain catalogue hygiene, scale product ranges, and support downstream features that depend on clean product grouping.
To access
- Go to Settings
- Click Product Categories
This opens the Categories page, where you can view and manage all categories created for your store.
Understanding the Categories Page
The Categories page provides a centralised view of how your products are structured. For each category, you’ll see:
- Name – The category name and its position in the category hierarchy
- Products – The number of products currently assigned to the category
- Status – Indicates whether the category is Active or Inactive
- Updated At – The date and time the category was last modified
- Actions (three-dot menu) – Options to edit or manage the category
This view helps you quickly understand category usage, hierarchy, and product distribution across your catalogue.
Filtering Categories
To narrow down the list of categories, click Filters and apply one or more of the following:
- Status – Filter by Active or Inactive categories
- Visibility – Filter by Public or Private categories
- Parent Category – View only categories that belong to a specific parent
Filters are useful when managing large catalogues or reviewing specific category structures.

Why Categories Matter
Categories form the foundation of your product organisation. When products are assigned categories during upload or editing:
- They can automatically appear in related collections
- Navigation menus can be built using category-based structures
- Storefront pages remain organised without manual intervention
A well-planned category structure makes it easier to scale your catalogue, maintain consistency, and surface products to customers efficiently.
