We're not large enough to have insurance in our rates with AusPost so we'd like to offer it as an option to customers at checkout. However I can't find a way to add it as an option at checkout and have it added to the final total.
There's no built-in way to do this in Neto. Probably the best way is to have a second shipping option that includes insurance with a different set of rates building in the pricing.
I'd be careful going ahead with this though, it may affect your conversions. The onus is really on the merchant to get the products safely to an end customer. Adding an extra charge right at the final step of checkout to deliver the basic level of service I'd already expect is a huge turn-off. Yes, plenty of majors do it, but that doesn't make it right. Be better than them and show your customers how much you care.
Don't pay for insurance through your carriers, it's a waste of money and a nightmare to claim. Two best options are:
Good advice, thank you!
Hi there, Welcome to the Community!
You can set up a Custom order field. Custom order fields are a way to get more information from the customer on the checkout page. They’re saved to the order in your control panel.
This is an add-on that you may have to install in the platform, to set up the Order Custom Fields Add-on, refer to the article below:
Provide a name for the custom field, such as "Insurance," and specify a price for the insurance option. Now, the insurance option should be available for customers to select at checkout. It will appear as an optional checkbox.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
@Pranay Shinde I think you're mixing up the features of different custom fields.
Custom order fields can only be text, and don't affect the pricing of the order
Custom customer fields support text, checkboxes and some other stuff but also can't affect order pricing.
Product extra options can affect pricing, but are only set per-product rather than on the checkout.
Erik, Apologies for any confusion caused. Thank you for clarifying the features of custom fields. I understand now that custom order fields are limited to text and don't affect the pricing of the order.
Setting up the second shipping option is the only possible way then. Thanks for the workaround!
