Current Limitation
At present, Merchandising Cloud only allows administrators to add or remove users. Once a user has access, they effectively have the same permissions as every other user, with no ability to restrict access to specific features or functionality.
Proposed Enhancement
Introduce role based permissions that allow administrators to control what each user can view or modify within Merchandising Cloud.
This would enable businesses to grant access based on an individual's responsibilities, improving security and reducing the risk of accidental changes.
Example Use Cases
- Analytics Only – Provide staff, agencies or external consultants with access to dashboards and reporting without allowing them to modify merchandising rules. Cannot add or edit users.
- Merchandiser – Allow users to pin products, apply merchandising rules, while preventing them from creating or scheduling promotional campaigns. Cannot add or edit users.
- Marketing Team – Permit users to create and schedule promotional campaigns and banners with optional access to search configuration or platform settings. Cannot add or edit users.
- Administrator – Full access to all platform features, including user management, settings.
Potential Permission Areas
- View analytics and reports
- Export reporting
- Create and edit merchandising rules
- Pin or boost products
- Schedule promotions
- Manage banners
- Configure search settings
- Manage users and permissions
Benefits
- Improves platform security by following the principle of least privilege.
- Prevents accidental changes to live merchandising campaigns.
- Makes it easier to collaborate with marketing teams, agencies and external partners.
- Supports larger organisations where multiple teams require different levels of access.
- Aligns Merchandising Cloud with the role-based access controls commonly available in merchandising platforms.
