How do I display data (product name, price, thumbnail image) from a specific SKU in a buyi[...]

I'm wanting to set up a buying guide which features a table comparing a number of similar products and their features. In the first three rows of the table I would like to have the product name, thumbnail image, and price, and I would prefer for this to be linked directly to the product itself so that it automatically updates, say if there's a price change.

 

As a starting point I had a look at how the category page template works which led me to the product thumb list. I think I could use the code listed here for all the elements I need, but I'm not sure how to point to a specific SKU for the source of the data.
