Retain sales person on orders for reporting/commission purposes

When an account manager is changed on a customer it changes for all orders. it would be great if the original sales person could be retained for reporting and commission purposes. The only usable workaround is to use a custom order field to enter in a sales person, which is manual, and prone to errors.
