How do I backoder one kit component, rather than the whole kit.

I put together an order that included several kits that had out of stock items. The customer needed several items so was happy for everything to be sent but the missing item. I went to put the single sku on backorder, but the new backorder invoice shows the whole kit, not the single missing item. How can I split a kit whilst packing?

Kitting is broken..... I have been asking this question for 2 years.

Also when you create a PO for a kit it won't order the individual components.
