Hi all - any insight into how "Sort Order 1" & "Sort Order 2" interract with each other? I have products that live in multiple categories, however within each category I want to assign them a different sort order number. Is this possible?
What actually happens with those fields depends on your theme, since it's the code in there that decides how to sort products in the category. Most likely, sort order 1 will work and sort order 2 will do nothing.
It would be possible to use sort order 1 for a category and sort order 2 for a different category, but this will require template changes. It would be a very quick job for a Neto partner.
Thanks Eric - so it's a design challenge, yes? Not an integral feature of the software? I'd still like to get a better understanding of how the Sort Order 1 & Sort Order 2 buttons actually work.
Well, it's sort of both. Neto is just a big database of your products. It's the template files in your theme that actually create all the pages - and hence decide what to do with fields like sort order 1 & 2. So those fields don't do anything in particular, unless a template chooses to use them (like when listing thumbnails on a category page). What actually happens on your site depends on which theme you have installed. Having said that most will just use the default code which I don't think uses either field ("popular" is the default sort order).
The templates are quite developer friendly. If you want a customized website, put together a detailed list of every tweak you want and take it to one of the many Neto partners. It's worth the investment to get your website set up in a way that suits your business.
OK - that makes some sense - thanks. I have a partner - I'll flick it over to them as a design issue now. Thanks Erik.
