It solves COGS journal date mismatch for customers using advanced inventory systems. Ability to choose when invoice date is set depending on business process. Provide a config that allows sites to invoice orders only when the order is dispatched. Currently the invoice date is either automatically generated (if config is set to do this) or when order is approved. A lot of businesses set invoice date as date of dispatch. Opens up more opportunity to attracting customers with this business process.
