Sorting blog posts by date with newest first?

We're looking to do more blog post stuff for the engagement and marketing, but whenever you make a new blog post, the main page sets the sort order as 'oldest to newest' instead of the more logical 'newest to oldest'. Anyone know where abouts we change that setting in the back end?

Should be an easy template change. Edit this file (backup up a copy of it first!):

All Settings & Tools > Webstore Templates

(your theme) > templates > cms > default.template.html

 

Look for a line like this:

[%thumb_list type:'content' content_type:'' template:'' show_next_level:'[@content_level@]'; limit:'20'%]

 

And add an extra parameter so it looks like this:

[%thumb_list type:'content' content_type:'' template:'' show_next_level:'[@content_level@]'; limit:'20' sortby:'date_posted-desc' %]

 

Note that it will sort all your content pages in date descending order. If that's a problem, you'll need to duplicate the template file (to something like "blog.template.html") and set this as the default template for the blog content type. This is a bit more complicated and will require SFTP access.
