Could you please clarify the specific differences you envision between the proposed SKU-based extra options and the existing kitting functionality?

Hi Pranay,

 

My suggestion is basically to make Extra Options have a new option called 'Inventoried SKU' under 'Allow Customer To Enter Option From.' This way, we would not need to create 1000s of new SKUs for editable kits (we already have 45,000), just add options to existing SKUs, so that customers can add-on extra options if they choose (e.g. a bag or case designed to fit their product). Kits also do not have a warehouse QTY, which makes it difficult for sales staff to determine whether something is in stock without looking up all the components individually.

 

How availability would work - I imagine this would be similar to the current kits (which show current stock in Control Panel), maybe with the added benefit of a stock availability tag like the main SKU has on its product page. How pricing would work - same as advanced config UPDATE_PRICE_IN_KIT y/n. An added benefit would be allowing a 'modifier' to the price, either absolute or percentage. E.g. a $150 case, with a 10% discount (or minus $15) when purchased as an extra option. If this $150 case has a price rise to $250, the new price for the Extra Option would be either $225 (10% discount) or $235 (minus $15) depending on our choice in Control Panel.
