Schedule times for making products active/inactive

We want to start and shut down sales of specific products at specific times. This could work in a similar manner to a CMS where articles can be published at scheduled times? This would negate the need for manual adjustments to products especially at unsociable hours like midnight. It would also offer benefits for promotionasl and marketing programmes.
